Therefore sharecropping replaced slavery, and most freedmen and poor whites went to this act, and remained under control of landowners. Last but not least, carpetbaggers, from the North, setup public schools in the South. This effected the Southern lifestyle in that all people would have an opportunity to learn. Being educated meant everyone would be smarter for the future. This definitely was a big part of the Act in the South. All of the events mentioned above were direct results of the act . Without them the Act would have been a total failure ....
