It also provided the basic principles for modern scientific illustrations. Leonardo was born in 1452 on is father’s estate at Vinci, near Florence. He grew up and was educated in the same estate. When he was fifteen his father apprenticed him to the artist Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence. Under Verricchio he studied painting, sculpting, and the mechanical arts.
