They used a technique called nuclear transfer where they removed the nucleus from an egg cell, and with an electric pulse fused the denucleated egg cell with a whole cell. The electric pulse also stimulates the egg to start dividing which makes it become an embryo. The embryo is implanted in a surrogate mother.
