Being a soldier means uprooting your family, moving them to a new duty station several times and spending lots of time away from your family. The military has shrunk since 1986 due to the draw down yet, it has experienced a fourfold increase in the number of deployments. This has increased responsibility and stress on the soldier. I believe that the soldier is underpaid when compared to the private sector.
