Beginning of Essay
These two short stories: “Araby,” by James Joyce; and “A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner; conclude in a way that would leave the reader thinking. In “Araby” my initial view of the young boy was reinforced by the ending, however in “A Rose for .... Middle of Essay .... he would press his hands together until they were trembling and murmur: “O’love, O’love” (Pg. 90). She knew that he liked her that is why she knew he would try to go to the Araby in order to buy something for her. It was only at the end that he realized that he was “a creature driven and derided by vanity” (Pg. 92). Only then did he really figure out how dumb he was and that he was only thinking with his penis (but I already knew that). So my view of him after the ending was reinforced and even added to my views of his horniness and stupidity.
