.... Since the beginning of the novel, all Ralph wanted was to get rescued from the island, and go back to his home. At the beginning of the novel, he talks about his father, who happens to be a "commander in a navy" (p. 8), in such a way hoping that he will somehow finds the boys and bring them off the island. Furthermore, at various moments of the novel, especially when Jack lost interest in the fire, Ralph reminds the boys how important the fire is.
