Beginning of Essay
The narrators in "Haircut" and "Cask of Amontillado" both put their own slant on the events as they tell them. This shows unreliable first-person narration in both stories. In "Haircut", Whitey is the narrator. He doesn't seem to be able to see through the eve ....

.... impersonated someone and said that a man was dead when he wasn't. In "Cask of Amontillado", the narrator is Montresor. He tells his friend that he has some wine for him to try, even though there is no wine and he is leading Fortunato to his death. "‘I have my doubts,' I replied; ‘and I was silly enough to pay the full Amontillado price without consulting you in the matter. You were not to be found, and I was fearful of losing a bargain.'" Montresor tells Fortunato this lie to lure him into the cellar, but the reader doesn't realize his intention until later in the story when he shackles Fortunato to the wall. Whitey is an unreliable narrator ....
