.... and the downfall of Oedipus: “Shepard: I pitied the baby, my king,/ And I thought that this man would take him far away/...He saved him-but for what a fate!/For if you are what this man says you are,/No man living is more wretched than Oedipus.” (lines 64-69). Consulting an oracle Oedipus is told that he is going to kill his father and marry his mother. In fear of these events taking place he leaves his home, and his fate becomes a reality. Instead of leaving what he was proficied to do he runs right into his fate. On a road leading to Thebes he unknowingly “I know;/ I learned of him from others; I never saw him”(lines 108-109) kills his bi ....
