.... to one thing; Lennie is a kid in a man's body who is treated as less of a person by many of those around him. Since Lennie is an outcast, he must spend most of his time by himself. This makes Lennie very lonely. In being lonely, Lennie wants to be with other people just for the sake of not being by himself. In the novel, this is shown when Lennie visits Crooks and when he allows himself to talk with Curley's Wife. Talking with Curley's Wife caused Lennie to accidentally kill her and therefore Lennie's loneliness eventually leads to him getting into so much trouble that everyone around the ranch wants to have him lynched.
